Music plays a major part in the life of the school and children participate in a variety of musical activities as part of the curriculum, including singing, percussion bands and recorder playing. The music curriculum gives children opportunities to perform (controlling sounds through singing and playing); compose (Creating and developing ideas); appraise (responding and reviewing); and listen to music (applying knowledge and understanding). Music is taught by a specialist teacher.
All children are given the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument – this currently includes woodwind, guitar, keyboard, drums and violin.
Through their participation in assemblies, masses, concerts and special community events, children are able to demonstrate their skills to live audiences with growing confidence.
